1. Keep Track of Fewer Charitable Receipts
You’ll receive one receipt from the Community Foundation for the any contribution you make to your Fund.
  2. Avoid Capital Gains Taxes on Appreciated Stocks
There are significant tax advantages to donating an appreciated security, but it can be complicated.  We’ll sell the donated stock immediately, put the proceeds in your Fund, and then you can recommend donations to various worthy causes over the months or years to come.
  3. Donations Continue to Grow
The Community Foundation pools the assets from of all Funds to access the greatest investment strategies. Our investment managers, monitored closely by our Investment Committee, use a comprehensive strategy designed to maximize long-term growth while minimizing volatility.
  4. Fund Growth is Tax Free
As a 501(c)3 organization, The Community Foundation pays no income tax. All that growth in your donor-advised fund is completely tax-free (not just tax-deferred like your 401k.), allowing the Foundation to have the greatest impact possible.
  5. Ability to Distribute Funds Anonymously
If you would like grants from your Fund to be given anonymously, we will set up your Fund so that the recipient organization only sees The Community Foundation’s name on the check. You can decide to be anonymous or not on a case by case basis.
  6. Availability of Advice and Assistance
The Community Foundation interacts with not-for-profit organizations every day. Our staff and board works with Donor Advisors to recommend competitive grants that align with your charitable interests.
  7. Low Fees
All Donor Advised Funds at the Community Foundation contribute a low fee of 1.25% based on the fund’s balance. This is an annual grant to the Community Foundation, enabling us to maintain a high level of donor service, serve as a community leader and avoid competing with local nonprofits for annual contributions.
  8. Easy to Get Started
Starting any Fund at the Community Foundation is simple. You can establish a Fund with $5,000. All you need is a Fund name, establishing gift and a signed fund agreement.
