The Larry McDaris Memorial Fund was established to benefit the Cleveland/Bradley County Veteran’s Home and the “Horses for Hero’s” Program through Tri-State Therapeutic Riding Center.
Larry spent more than 21 years in the military and was well known for his service. Many in the community also knew Larry as a great supporter of Cleveland – working in Human Resources for Hardwick Stove, Magic Chef and Maytag. Larry was probably best known for his role in public service — acting as the Director of the Bradley County Veterans Service Office. In this role, Larry affected the lives of many Veterans throughout the community and helped streamline much needed processes. As retirement came, Larry stayed involved in the community and was a driving force for the Cleveland/Bradley County Veteran’s Home and never gave up! Larry passed away in 2024 but was a champion for the community and especially for the Veterans. He will be sadly missed but his legacy continues through the great work of Tri-State Therapeutic Riding at the Veterans Home!
Tri-State Therapeutic Riding takes the horses out to the Veteran’s home once per month for “Ponies on the Patio”, an opportunity for the residents to spend time together with the horses and enjoy equine therapy.
In addition to “Ponies on the Patio”, the center allows residents of the Veteran’s Home to come out to the center and enjoy carriage rides once per month, weather permitting. This is an excellent outing for the Veteran’s and allows them to continue to enjoy both outdoor and equine therapy.
