Plan for Caring for Vulnerable, Unsheltered Individuals
The Cold Weather Warming Shelter is a collaborative effort by The Salvation Army, The Caring Place, The Community Foundation and The City of Cleveland. Its mission is to serve some of our city’s most vulnerable by providing overnight shelter when the temperatures fall below 32. The Salvation Army has a large multi-purpose room that is designated for the shelter on those evenings. Our guests must register each day beginning at 6:00pm. The Shelter operational hours are 5:00pm -7:30am. Our guests are served a hot dinner meal provided by North Cleveland Church of God and a hot breakfast is prepared and served each morning by First Baptist Church. The Salvation Army provides showers each day, Monday – Friday 9:00a – 3:00p so our guests have an opportunity to shower each day prior to coming into the shelter. The shelter is supervised by security guards contracted through a local security company and the facility has security cameras inside and outside the building to maintain a safe and monitored environment.
The Solution:
To support this need in our community, a coalition of agencies and churches have organized a response. They have worked together to make hotel rooms available to the most vulnerable of the neighbors experiencing homelessness in Cleveland/Bradley County. A local hotel is graciously willing to provide rooms for this endeavor at a minimal cost.
Request for Support:
Funds are needed for operational support for the Cold Weather Shelter program. The availability of a cold weather shelter program will aid in ensuring some of our most vulnerable community members have access to the basic need of shelter during freezing temperatures. Your support will make it possible to provide a safe space to protect their lives.
